The collages are from a scrapbook I made while traveling in the Mississippi Delta in 2016. I was there with some other photographers but was feeling a bit fed up with documentary photography and the tradition of outsiders parachuting into the South. To create a more creative space for myself, I started collecting random shards of material for this scrapbook. At the time I called it "Rabbits in Trees." I'd forgotten why, but I just looked up my notes and found these two quotes:

"Well, on every old broken-down tree you could see rabbits and snakes and such things; and when the island had been overflowed a day or two they got so tame, on account of being hungry, that you could paddle right up and put your hand on them if you wanted to."
